Participant of the Month (College) - Holt
“Holt is one of the most respectful students! He is always so positive and brings a smile to everyone's face. Everyone likes Holt!”
“Holt is a great role model for participants! He always has a positive attitude and is very inclusive with his peers.”
Holt's engagement with the MICC community is both enthusiastic and varied. "One class I really enjoy is leisure social skills. I also really enjoy the Ambassadors elective because I get to meet people who are interested in attending MICC," he explains. His participation extends beyond the classroom to a range of social activities, including trips to the Mall of America, movie outings, and Just Dance sessions.
Holt’s fun facts about himself, include:
- “I am really great with remembering people’s birthdays.
- I really like to travel. I get to go to Sweden once or twice a year.
Holt says he’s being recognized because he has “a positive attitude”, he “comes to class on time”, and he “greets people anywhere I see them on campus”. And he is absolutely right.
Congratulations, Holt!
Participant of the Month (Community) - Kari
“Kari is simply a breath of fun air! She always greets me with a smile and wants to check in about my life and tell me about hers. She is always enthusiastic when sharing stories and so deserving of the Participant of the Month award!”
“Kari has really taken it upon herself to stay busy socially after working long hours. Kari always has a smile on her face and is welcoming to everyone she meets. A bright light who we love seeing around campus.”
"My name is Kari Thayer and I graduated in 2008, and I used to live in Buffalo, New York." Her time at MICC has been transformative, teaching her invaluable life skills such as living independently, making friends, and securing employment.
Kari's favorite memories at MICC revolve around the vibrant community and the opportunities it has provided. Kari enthusiastically shared that her favorite thing about MICC is "that I learn how to live on my own and making friends and getting a job." Her active participation in various activities - “My favorites have been Beading with Brooke, playing bingo, and baking with Chris” - showcases her diverse interests and eagerness to engage with MICC’s community.
Reflecting on the reasons behind her recognition as Participant of the Month, Kari humbly shared, "I think why they picked me as participant of the months is because I am working a full-time job and trying to also balance a social life and still hang out with people."
Congratulations, Kari!
