A Week to Discover, Learn, and Grow!

At MICC, we understand that every journey to independence is unique. That's why we're excited to announce the 2024 Summer Program for neurodivergent teens and young adults who are ready to take a step forward in their independence.
 
Our Summer Program focuses on nurturing job skills and social confidence. Join us for an experience that goes beyond the ordinary, preparing you for a future filled with possibilities.

Independent Living Skills

Participants actively contribute to meal preparation for themselves and their peers, learning essential life skills such as chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, cooking diverse dishes, and managing kitchen cleanup. This practical approach fosters independence and teamwork in everyday living tasks.

Job Exploration & Work-Based Learning

Start your self-discovery journey with job exploration activities and gain hands-on experience through volunteer opportunities with local businesses like Good Grocer and Arc's Value Village. This blend of exploration and real-world experience is designed to uncover your talents and introduce you to the working world.

Self-Advocacy

Learn to voice your needs and preferences confidently. Activities are tailored to help you recognize and communicate your needs effectively, ensuring you can advocate for yourself in various life scenarios

Social Coaching

Enhance your social skills through activities focused on active listening, conflict resolution, and relationship building, leaving you with a toolkit of interpersonal techniques.

Community and Friendship Perhaps one of the most significant aspects of the MICC Summer Program is the sense of community it fosters. You'll meet and bond with peers who share similar experiences and challenges, forming friendships that could last a lifetime.

Tailored Curriculum Experience a program specially designed for autistic and neurodiverse young adults, focused on overcoming unique social and employment challenges.


Career Exploration Gain hands-on experience through volunteer opportunities from real employers, such as Good Grocer and Arc's Value Village. It's a chance to apply your skills in real-world settings, boosting your confidence and enhancing your abilities.

Session I: Ages 18-24 | June 10-14, 2024
Session II: Ages 16-18 | June 24-28, 2024

Program Schedule

8:00 - 8:30 AM: Drop-off
8:30 - 9:00 AM: Morning meeting
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Careers industry exposure (tours, guest speakers, etc.)
12:00 - 1:00 PM: Prepare and eat lunch
1:00 - 4:30 PM: Social activities and community integration
4:30 - 5:00 PM: Pick-up

SUMMER PROGRAM ADMISSIONS CRITERIA AND CANDIDATE CHARACTERISTICS
Admissions Requirements​
  • A diagnosed learning disability, executive dysfunction, autism spectrum disorder,  ADHD/ADD, or other neurological condition. Most applicants will have a range of cognitive and processing abilities.
  • No significant behavior or emotional dysregulation.
  • Responds well to a structured and supported environment.
  • Between the ages of 16-24 depending on session; 18-year old's can connect with Admissions to determine which session may be more appropriate.​

A Successful Candidate...
  • Is excited to be a part of MICC programming and have a general buy-in.
  • Is able to make independent, safe decisions and not require 24-hour supervision. MICC is not a therapeutic or psychiatric program; and will not be a good fit for participants who experience significant emotional and behavioral challenges.​
  • Has evidence of their ability to navigate day-to-day activities (school, volunteering, work, etc.) without 1:1 support.
  • Demonstrates emotional and behavioral stability sufficient to live independently, function socially, and participate fully in programming

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE PROGRAM?
The cost for the 5-day program is $1,400, and includes:
  • Curriculum and instruction
  • Daily lunch
  • Program-related transportation
  • Activities, excursions, and events

MICC's internal financial assistance is not available for the Summer Program.

Third-party funding options may be available through state and/or county resources such as MN waivers, and possibly other county funding sources. Contact your local county agency, and/or current case manager for information on how to use funding towards this program.
WHAT DOES THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS INCLUDE?
Required Application Materials
  • $100 application fee
  • Recent transcript (unofficial)
  • Recent IEP / Transition Plan
  • Two (2) recommendations from:
    • ​​A vocational professional, such as a supervisor, job coach, etc.
    • An educational professional, such as a teacher, instructor, school administrator, etc.
    • A general professional, such as a case manager, therapist, doctor, etc.
  • Relevant health records

Optional Application Materials
  • Recent neuropsychological evaluation

Application Process
  1. Submit online application and materials.
  2. Admissions will review applications for eligibility.
  3. If eligible, candidates will be contacted for a virtual interview via Zoom.
  4. The Admissions Committee will make and send a determination.
  5. If accepted, participants will be contacted with next steps including enrollment forms and more detailed program information.

What Type of supervision is provided?
Each participant will be part of a small group led by an MICC instructor or staff member. Participants are expected to adhere to the attendance requirements and rules regarding their safety, anti-bullying, and anti-harassment as outlined in the Summer Program Handbook and reviewed on the first day of the program.
What if I'm unable to commute daily to/from MICC?
We recognize and understand that day programming will be limiting to families outside of the metro area and out of state. We want to provide a quality experiential, in-person experience, while also keeping participants and staff safe.
